After learning that her boyfriend is married to another woman, Paullina, a 25-year-old copywriter from Moscow, decides to recoup by spending few days in her grandmother Baba Katya’s house in the remote village of Podkolki. Upon arriving in the picturesque countryside, Paullina discovers the eccentric old woman rehearsing her own funeral, and she has somehow enlisted the entire village’s help.The situation becomes even more absurd when an American movie star, Michael Berkley, and his neurotic assistant Mathew arrive in town looking for Baba Katya. Michael has tried her exotic gooseberry jam and, being a hopeless foodie, he is on the quest to get the recipe. To Michael’s dismay Baba Katya doesn’t know the recipe by heart and doesn’t want to be distracted from the major “event” she is getting ready for, but Paullina volunteers to help and under grannie’s supervision and together with Michael they start the process of re-discovery of the old recipe.

Alexander Andranikian

is internationally recognized for the aesthetic contributions he has made as a film director, director of television commercials, music videos and animation. Upon graduating from the elite School of Film Directors and Script Writers in Moscow, Andranikian, inspired by limitless possibilities of animation, began his career by directing animated films for Armenfilm -- the largest studio in Armenia. In 1987, Andranikian received his first accolade from the European film community for directing, "From Evening to Evening," and was awarded with the Grand Prize for the Best Animated Film at the Kiev International Film Festival, “Molodost”. Soon thereafter, Sash moved back to Moscow where he started a new journey directing commercials and music videos. His first music video, “Flowers," an elegant combination of animation and live action, was a ground-breaking success and gained nation-wide acclaim. It earned Andranikian numerous awards including Grand Prize and First Prize in category at the International Festival of Light Entertainment Television Programs “Post-Montreux-92," The Silver Apple and Special Jury Prize at The International Festival of Music Videos, “Generation 1992." "Flowers" was screened at the 1992 Cannes Musical Festival, and hit the number one position on Russian Billboard charts where it remained for almost one year. Andranikian then made his transition into the American industry, where he met producer Mark Zander, and in 1993 directed “Behind Bars," an animated hip hop music video for Def Jam Records featuring noted rapper, Slick Rick. Soon after, Andranikian directed the highly publicized “Get High, Get Stupid, Get AIDS” public service announcement and music video for The Ad Council’s Aids Awareness Campaign featuring rock star, Melissa Etheridge. This skilled director is well respected by the advertising industry for directing over hundred influential television commercials. Sash received national attention for directing over thirty animated television spots for the AT&T True Voices campaign and for creating numerous innovative and entertaining commercials for Fisher Price, EMI Records, Chase Visa, HBO, Macy’s, FSA, Hasbro, Club Med, LG and Samsung, to mention a few. Last few years, Andranikian has turned his attention to other genres - writing and directing films.
