SYNOPSIS
The Holy Gospel was created by scribe Hovhannes on parchment in 974 A. D. in Erzerum. During the Russian-Turkish war Archbishop Karapet led the migration of Armenian families from Erzerum to Akhaltskha including Anakhas, the representative of the Saponjian family, who rescued the Gospel of Hovhannes throughout four years of looting and plunder on the way to Tsughrut. The Gospel consists of 195 parchment sheets has silver binding depicting Jesus and the Apostles as well as scenes from the Bible. The villagers are convinced that the Holy Gospel is the guardian of the village and do not allow to take it out of the village.
