After spending his childhood in Nantes and Chambéry, David studied sound engineering in Brest. At the same time, he was interested in shooting images and took advantage of being in Brittany to first experiment what would later become his passion and his occupation. He then left Brest to attend the image department of the FEMIS. Making a living as a director of photography, he kept experimenting shooting out at sea. This is to be seen in his movies Coups de filet in 2007, Morning Star in 2013 and in his first long documentary film Sons of Barents.
