Film director, producer and scriptwriter. Studied physics at Warsaw University and philosophy at Jagiellonian University, graduated Lodz Film School, in 1967. He is also a theater director; he has staged around 50 productions (including operas) in Milan, Palermo, Bonn, Cracow, Bremen, Basel, Syracuse, Kiev, Novosibirsk and Rome – to mention some major ones. Krzysztof Zanussi has been awarded many prestigious prizes and distinctions. He has authored numerous books, also concerning filmmaking. Krzysztof Zanussi is a member of the Pontifical Commission for Culture at the Vatican, the European Film Academy Board, the Polish Academy of Science, the PEN-Club, the Polish Writers Association. He is an ex-president of the European Federation of Audiovisual Producers (FERA) and the Eurovision Association. He has honorary doctorates of the All-Russian State Institute of Cinematography VGIK (Moscow), the National University of Drama and Film I. L. Caragiale (Bucharest), the European Humanities University (Minsk), the Bulgarian University (Sophia), the University of Film and Television (St. Petersburg), the Catholic University of Lublin, the Opole University, Pázmány Péter Catholic University (Budapest), the University of Lodz, and is a recipient of the Luka Brajnovic Award (Navarre). Krzysztof Zanussi gives lectures at numerous universities, including Columbia, Yale, Cambridge, Rice University (Houston), Moscow, Barcelona, and master classes all around the world.
