Born 1968, Iaşi, Romania. Cristian Mungiu is a Romanian filmmaker, winner of the Palme d'Or in 2007 for his film 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days. After studying English literature at the University of Iaşi, he worked for a few years as a teacher and as a journalist. In 1998 he graduated from the University of Film in Bucharest, Film directing department. After several short films he debuted with his first feature film, highly successful Occident, in 2002.
