In 1965 he graduated from the Directing Department of the Yerevan Fine Arts and Theatre Institute. Grigoryan worked as an assistant director and director at Hayfilm Studio. In 1970 he graduated from the Advanced Directing Courses in Moscow. Grigoryan is the author of many articles and books on cinema, among them “Sergey Parajanov” and “Armen Jigarkhanyan.”
