| Khamdamov, Rustam Rustam Khamdamov (born 1944, Tashkent, Uzbekistan)
Artist, director, and laureate of “Triumph” and “Nation’s Cultural Treasure” awards. Graduated from VGIK, direction faculty (1969, G. Chuhray’s workshop). At the beginning of the 1990s lived in France on the invitation of the mayor of Paris, and at the present time lives in Moscow. The artist’s pictures were bought and are now being demonstrated by the galleries of Paris, London and by private collections. An outstanding expert of material world culture and an original artist, he made drafts for decorations ordered by some European haute couture and prêt-a porte houses, drafts of the jewelry for the Russian World Gallery in the USA, and costumes for theatrical projects, including The Gull by Andrey Konchalovsky (2004). His first directorial feature, My Heart Is in the Highlands, a student work, became a world cinema event and excited Fellini and Antonioni. The second wasn’t finished and the third – Anna Karamazoff- was premiered in the Cannes main competition program and received the most enthusiastic and contradictory press.
