“Return of the Poet” finally took the place it deserved and for the first time won a prize as the Best Film at the Kish First International Film Festival after participating in more than 30 festivals. During the press conference, director Harutyun Khachatryan presented his award to the journalists: a mermaid - the symbol of the Kish Island - with a tape in its hands. The director stated that though the film, dedicated to Ashugh Jivani, was shot 6 years ago, it is still actual.
“Cinema is one-of-a-kind art that gets older very quickly. But in fact our filmabout our poor people never gets older”, - he says.
“Our film was the best since the documentary had reached the level of poetry. There were lots of films very well made with good dramaturgy, but apart from “Return of the Poet” they were not poetic. And it’s already common that the jury members were applauding after watching the film”, - shared his thoughts the cameraman Vrezh Petrosyan, the other participant of the Kish Festival.
Harutyun Khachatryan told that the Kish Festival aims to restore the fame of Iranian festivals in the world and to make Kish a crossroad of cultures and civilizations.
“The fame of Iran films is huge, but this is not the case with their festivals. The Iranian filmmakers have got problems with the government, which directly affects the rate of Iranian festivals. The festival of Ispahan, for example, was closed down
completely. And they had displayed serious approach to the organization of the Kish Festival”, - he says.
It is noteworthy, that a group of Iranian National Television was also present during the press conference.
The new official poster of “Golden Apricot” Yerevan International Film Festival was also presented to the journalists during the same press conference.
“Our minds are full of cinema, cinema is everything for us”,- says Harutyun Khachatryan, while talking about the poster; and added that not being the author of the poster he is not the one to interpret orexplain it. Like the past 7 years, this time as well the design of the poster was done by Printinfo.
The 8th “Golden Apricot” International Film Festival will be held in Yerevan, July 10-17, 2011. The general sponsor of the festival is VivaCell-MTS. The festival is organized with the supportof the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Armenia.
