A young girl, Eve, arrives in a village in Burgundy, where she has applied for a job delivering bread for a bakery. But as she travels through the countryside each day the people and landscape around her seem to take on a symbolic significance that becomes overwhelming. Slowly it becomes apparent that she has come to the region not because of the job but to find her lover. She spies on a married man with a small child. Each time Eve meets him, we get a bit closer to the truth. The man, her lover, is Eve’s father. He will no longer have anything to do with her. She was a good girl. She always did everything her father asked her to. What he asked her to do was to sleep with him. To the very last Eve holds on to her dream of a loving relationship with her father, a relationship he evidently promised her, a relationship that would make them beautiful and strong in the future. But the future is now.
