“What sin did I commit to be born a woman?” Lakshmi wonders aloud. A 21-year-old housemaid in Mumbai, she works ten hours a day, seven days a week. One of her employers is Nishtha Jain, who begins to make a documentary that explores their relationship.

| Jain, Nishtha Nishtha Jain is an independent filmmaker. She is a graduate of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune and Jamia Mass Communication Research Centre, New Delhi. Her thesis Jam invalid won the Gold Plaque in The Chicago IFF in 1999. Since then she has made several documentaries for TV, including a series on the conflict in Northeast India.
