Mother has literally drowned herself in alcohol, father is about to do so passing all his time in bed, sister is never at home, and aunt drops by every now and then to bring some food and rant... No one who has grown up in an atmosphere like this has any chance. It seems to be different for Sasha, called San Sanych, who appears to be the only person in sound mind in the insane world that surrounds him. This is not a downcast, miserable human being, a little pauper or pitiable beggar. He is ruddy and cheerful little man, totally satisfied with his life. the camera follows him over the period of one year from the day of his mother’s death. The different locations presented during the four seasons of the year are those of his life: his home, that isn’t a home; school with its pressing teachers; his first love; the streets of his borough in Chisinau, where he knows every vendor of sunflowers, every petty drug dealer, and where he finds shelter and survives begging. Childhood is over.
