Apo Torosyan, a second-generation Armenian Genocide survivor, was born the son of an Armenian father and a Greek mother. As a boy, he witnessed the terrifying events of the 1955 pogrom against Christians, in which priests were hanged and Greek businesses were destroyed all over the city. Apo graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Istanbul with a Master’s Degree in 1968, and emigrated to the United States the same year. After settling in the Boston area, Apo established an international visual design company, which he sold in 1986 to dedicate his full time to his art. Since then he has had numerous solo and group shows all over the United States, Canada and in Europe.
His art works have been selected by the MusÕ¼e d’Art Modern in Tonneins, Bordeaux, France; the Armenian Library and Museum of America in Watertown, Massachusetts; Western Diocese, Burbank, CA; Ararat Museum, Mission Hills, CA; A.G.B.U. Manoogian Collection, Montreal, Canada; Sacred Heart University, Fairfield, CT; the Flaten Art Museum in Northfield, Minnesota and the Florida Holocaust Museum in St. Petersburg FL. for their permanent collections. Apo is also an active member of the Boston Printmakers and the International Association of Genocide Scholars.
