A brutal assault changes Marieke’s life. She leaves her familiar city rhythms for the solitude of a dilapidated empty house in the countryside. Her irrational fears on the frozen farm disturb her. As spring comes, her curiosity for new things that were covered under the cold bareness of winter pull her out of her suffocating inner world. Slowly, she accepts the help of John, her neighbor, but as the seasons change so does she.

After studying at the Academy of Visual Arts in Arnhem, she enrolled at the Dutch Film Academy in Amsterdam in 1994. She and her brother Hugo Rots founded the Rots Filmwerk BV production company in Amsterdam. Following three short films. Can Go Through Skin is her first feature-length film.
