In 1946 his family immigrated to Soviet Armenia. In 1954 graduated from the Yerevan Conservatory. Then, in 1962 graduated from the Directing Department of VGIK (G.Roshale's master class). Since 1962 has been working as a film director at Armenfilm Studio. Has shot documentaries and animation films as well.
