Avetisyan graduated from Department of Graphic Design, the Yerevan State of Fine Arts and Cinema. In 1996 Avetisyan joined the television company of Hrazdan simultaneously taking courses for cameramen and directors at Internews. He left for France the same year and worked at a private television company for two months. Avetisyan has been working at the Public Television of Artsakh since 1996 as a director. Avetisyan took the position of the head of information service of the Stepanakert municipality between 1999 and 2000. He has twice received the Yeghishe Award in 2005 and 2008.
