It is summer in a new suburb of Paris and there is nothing to do but to look at the ceiling. Marie, Anne and Floriane are 15. Their paths cross in the corridors at the local swimming pool, where love and desire make a sudden, dramatic appearance.

Sciamma is a graduate from La FEMIS – the High School for Cinema and Audio and Visual Arts, France. The Water Lilies is her debut as a director, with its screenplay written by Scamma for her final exam at the FEMIS in 2006. it was upon the advice of director and screenwriter Xavier Beauvoir, a member of examination commission, that the young author decided to shoot the film. In 2007 the film was included in the Un Certain Regard programme at the Cannes FF, and has been nominated for Cesar in 2008.
