| Reygadas, Carlos Carlos Reygadas (born 1971, Mexico City, Mexico)
After studying Law in Mexico, Carlos Reygadas (Alberto Castillo Asunsolo) specialized in Armed Conflicts in London and worked for the United Nations. In 1987 he discovered his filmic passion after watching Andrei Tarkovsky’s films. In 1997 Carlos participated in a film competition in Belgium with his first short film Maxhumain. Shortly after that, in 1999 he began writing the script for his first feature-legth film Japցn shot only in 2001. The film was presented at the Rotterdam FF and received a Special Mention of the Camռra d’Or award at the Cannes FF as well as the Coral Award of the Havana FF. In 2004 Reygadas produced the Sangre, directed by young filmmaker Amat Escalante. The film was presented at the Cannes Film Festival and won in the Un Certain Regard section. In 2005 Reygadas filmed Batalla en el Cielo (Battle in Heaven) assisted by Amat Escalante. It competed for the Palme d’Or at the Cannes IFF.
