Born out of the Ashes tells the story of Circassians forced to immigrate in 1864 after the Russian invasion of North Caucasus. Inhabiting different locations in Turkey, second, third and fourth generations of Circassians tell the stories of the immigration, how they built their new lives and their traditions that make the Circassians peculiar. The documentary depicts them in their daily lives and rituals both in Turkish and in their own language – an inseparable part of their culture.

Rıza is one of the pioneers of documentary filmmaking in Turkey. He has realized more than thirty documentaries some of which have received awards and acclaim in Turkey and abroad. He is a founding member of The Association of Documentary Filmmakers in Turkey and the was the chairman of the Board of Directors of the Association for seven years. Besides being a documentary film director he also lectures at two universities on documentary filmmaking.
