Film comes from a literary tradition of the Decadence and refers to such books as Stivenson’s Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hide and Oscar Wilde’s The portrait of Dorian Grey. The main character is a university professor of literature and at the same time a hardcore drug addict, a regular bottom dweller of the city. The story is told by the hero himself. His literary inclinations bring the lyricism and the intimacy of a personal diary into his narration, while his scholarly mindset gives it the distance and the cold detail of a documentary. It is the history of the decease, watched and described by the addict himself.
