The genocide of the Armenians through the story of an Armenian family that restores a farm in order to welcome the arrival of relatives who had moved to Italy. However, they will never see their relatives as they get caught in the genocide carried out by the Turks during WWI.

Paolo and Vittorio Taviani are noted Italian film directors and screenwriters. They are brothers, who have always worked together, each directing alternate scenes. Taviani brothers studied at the University of Pisa: Paolo studied liberal arts, Vittorio- law. They became interested in cinema after seeing Roberto Rossellini's Paisa. After writing and directing short films and plays, they made their first feature in 1962. At the Cannes IFF the Taviani brothers won Palme d'Or and the FIPRESCI Prize for Padre, padrone in 1977 and Grand Prix du Jury for Saint Lorenzo's night in 1982. They worked with Valentino Orsini directing two films Un uomo da brucare (1962) and I fuorilegge del matrimonio (1963). With actor Gian Maria Volonte they rose to fame with Under the Sign of Scorpio (1969). The revolutionary theme is present both in San Michele aveva un gallo (1971), and in the film Allonsanfan (1974). Kaos came out in 1984. Il sole anche di notte (1990) is a free adaptation of Tolstoy's Father Sergius. In the 2000s, the two directors turned successfully to television films and miniseries. La masseria delle allodole (2007), was screened at the Berlin IFF in the Berlinale Special section.
