A small family - a father and a son - lives on the top floor of an old house. The father cannot imagine his life without his son. The son loves his father devotedly and deeply. Their love is almost of a mythological virtue and scale. It cannot happen in real life. This is a fairy-tale.

He grew up in Poland and Turkmenistan. He worked for television in Gorky between the years of 1969 and 1975 and completed a degree in history from Gorky University. Subsequently, he studied directing at the Moscow film school VGIK. His 1978 graduation film and the feature films he made at Lenfilm between 1980 and 1985 could not be shown until after 1986. He received an accolade from the European Film Academy in 1995.
