In 1986 Ljudmila Ignatenko was 23 years old, very much in love with her husband Vasilij, a fireman, and five months pregnant. They lived in Pripyat, the city built around the Chernobyl nuclear plant. On the night between April 25 and 26 Vasily was sent out. A film programmer and a journalist by trade, founded the cinema magazine “Filmkonst” in 1989. Since 1994 he is the director of the Gothenburg Film Festival. He transferred his passion for film from in front of the screen to behind the camera. His filmography consists of The Voice of Bergman (1997); The Voice of Ljudmila; Ingmar Bergman: Intermezzo (2002) and the short, The Voice of Silence (2002).
