Studied directing at the Leningrad Institute of Theater, Music and Cinematography. His short film ‘The Road’ won the First Prize in Leningrad Short Film Festival in 1989. In 1990 he moved to the USA and studied at Columbia College, Hollywood. His thesis film ‘Concrete Dream’ won the First Prize in the Columbia Film Festival in 1993. In 1996 graduated from the American Film Institute. In addition to numerous short films, he has directed ballet, opera, and theater. Camera Obscura is his first feature film and fourth feature film screenplay.
